Spring Leaf Pickup April 22-26

Mayor David Wood announced today that the Mishawaka Street Department will be picking up leaves for one week, starting Monday, April 22, 2019. This means that Mishawaka residents may begin raking leaves to their curbside for a Monday, April 22nd pickup which will continue for a one week period only, through Friday, April 26th.

Leaves will be picked up the day before the resident’s regular trash pick-up day. For example, if a resident’s trash pick-up day is on Wednesday, the Mishawaka Street Department will pick up leaves from that residence on Tuesday. The Monday scheduled trash pick-ups will have their leaves picked up on Friday, April 26th.

Leaves should be raked to the edge of the curb and should be free of branches, twigs, stones or similar foreign objects which can damage equipment and delay leaf pick-up.

The City of Mishawaka will be opening its Organic Center, located at 1105 E. 5th Street, as of Saturday, April 13th, and will remain open through mid-December. This location will accept brush, leaves, grass and outdoor organic waste Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00am to 3:15pm, from Mishawaka residents only.

In partnership with the St. Joseph County Solid Waste District, the Center will also accept household hazardous waste such as paint, cleaners, oils, gasoline, and electronics. This service is available to the residents of the City of Mishawaka as well as residents of St. Joseph County. The Organic Center does not accept bottles, cans, newspapers, cardboard or other common household products for recycling. Mishawaka residents can recycle those products through the city’s Curbside Recycling Program. More information regard the Mishawaka Organic Center can be found here.

Any questions about the leaf pick-up schedule or the Mishawaka Organic Center may be directed to Mishawaka Central Services offices at (574) 258-1660.
