Military Hometown Heroes Banner Program

The Military Hometown Heroes Banner Program was created to honor and recognize military personnel that reside or have resided in the City of Mishawaka; those who can and do call Mishawaka their hometown. The program is funded through payments and donations which enable the purchase and placement of the banners on City lampposts. Banners will be displayed from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.

About the Banners

Banners measure approximately 18” x 37” and will have the Service Person’s name, image, military branch and rank. Banner types are:

Active Duty - designated with a blue star
Veteran - honorably discharged will be designated with a white star
Memorial - those who have died in the line of duty will be designated with a gold star

Eligibility

The individual to be recognized must reside or have resided in the City of Mishawaka and call Mishawaka their hometown. Individuals must have served in any of the five branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard) and must also meet one of the following conditions

  • Currently be active duty
  • Be an honorably discharged veteran
  • Died in the line of duty

Cost

The initial cost per banner is $200.00 for the production, installation, and removal of the banner. A previously displayed banner that is still in good condition can be re-displayed the following year - the cost of installation and removal of the banner is $40.00.

Sponsorship / Donations

Sponsorships and donations will be used to assist families who would like to take part in this program and cannot afford to pay the cost of the banner requests. You can sponsor a specific banner/family or simply donate funds to be used as needs arise. Sponsors will be listed on the City of Mishawaka website as a program sponsor/donor from Memorial Day to Veterans Day during the year you contributed. To sponsor a banner, download the Guidelines and Sponsorship document and follow the instructions.

Banner display

The banner will be displayed from Memorial Day to Veterans Day. After Veterans Day, the banner will be removed and returned to the person who made the application. If the banner is still in good condition and the applicant would like it displayed the following year - this can be done for a cost of $40 (to cover installation and removal).
