As of July, 2013 the oversight and coordination of the following Youth Sports Activities has transitioned to School City of Mishawaka.
|Youth Wrestling||Girls Basketball|
|Girls Volleyball||Boys Basketball|
Please contact School City of Mishawaka for session dates and registration information.
The Mishawaka Parks & Recreation Department and School City of Mishawaka have partnered together to provide youth sports to children who live within the School City of Mishawaka boundaries. This joint venture began in 2000 with a tackle football program, affectionately termed “MFL” for Mishawaka Football League, and has now blossomed to offer five additional programs, including youth wrestling, boys basketball, girls basketball, and girls volleyball.
Tentative time frames for these sports are as follows:
|Anytime throughout the year||Aug - Oct||Tackle Football, 3rd-6th Grade|
Please note that these are tentative dates and subject to change without prior notice.
All students that are enrolled within the School City of Mishawaka system, and are within the age requirements of the individual sports program offered, will be eligible to compete within the leagues offered by the Park and Recreation Department. Students living within the School City of Mishawaka boundaries attending either parochial schools or home-schools are also eligible to participate.
Performance Grade/Disciplinary Action
Due to these programs being affiliated with School City of Mishawaka, all students participating must remain within the performance grade and disciplinary guidelines as set by School City of Mishawaka Administration. All students enrolled will be listed on a roster and turned over to the School City Administration Office to be dispersed to the individual elementary schools. Students who do not maintain the performance grade or who have received disciplinary actions preventing them from attending school will no longer be eligible to participate.
Interested students attending a Penn-Harris-Madison, South Bend, Jimtown, or other school will be placed onto a “waiting list” and will be allowed enrollment only if additional athletes are needed to make up a team to compete in a particular sport. Wait-list athletes are contacted on a first come, first serve basis. In addition, if only a few wait-listed participants are needed out of the large pool of applicants to fill a team, then only those participants will be allowed enrollment. Registration deadlines will be set for each individual sport. Only after such deadlines pass will this waiting list come into effect.
All youth athletic sports require an enrollment/registration fee. Qualifying siblings may receive a discount. Please note that there are no refunds for enrollment/registration fees.
This program teaches the basic fundamentals of football and has become a feeder system for Mishawaka High School’s football program. Early registration for this fall program is typically from mid-April through mid-August. It is open to children entering 3rd-6th grades in the fall who meet the eligibility requirements above. The program offers 2 leagues: "A" (5th-6th Grades), and "B" (3rd-4th Grades).
Teams are selected through a blind draw; however, qualifying siblings are paired in the draw so they are placed on the same team in order to help parents coordinate family schedules. Helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants and pads, and a team jersey are provided “on loan” during the season. Conditioning typically starts the week children return to school and lasts for two weeks (Monday-Thursday). Regular 2-a-week practices typically begin the following week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
A copy of participant’s birth certificate and grade advancement (last report card) are due at time registration. PLEASE NOTE A PHYSICAL IS REQUIRED FOR THIS SPORT. A physical is required annually for this program and must be turned in to the Parks Office prior to the child’s participation in conditioning.
Fee required. Sliding fee scale is available for additional siblings.
|$75.00||1st Qualifying Child|
|$50.00||2nd (1st Qualifying Sibling)|
|$25.00||3rd (2nd Qualifying Sibling)|
