St. Joseph County Department of Health issued a public health advisory for people with heart or lung conditions, older adults, children and teens and recommended moving physical activities indoors or keeping outdoor activities short to reduce exposure. The County Health Officer restricted burning during this time – including celebratory fires, farm burning, residential burning, and camp fires (County Code 92.03).

Sensitive groups should reduce or avoid exertion and heavy work outdoors during these conditions. These individuals are particularly at risk after several days of exposure to high particulate levels.
