Front Porch Friday Keeps City Hall Connected to the People We Serve
Mayor Dave Wood invited Mishawaka residents to another Front Porch Friday on September 11, 2026, continuing a tradition built around listening, accessibility and open conversation.
Front Porch Friday gives residents an informal opportunity to sit down with the Mayor, ask questions, share concerns and discuss ideas for making Mishawaka an even better place to live, work and raise a family. There are no formal presentations, lengthy agendas or podiums—just neighbors talking with one another about their community.
“Staying close to the people we serve is one of the most important parts of my job,” Mayor Wood said. “You cannot lead a city effectively from behind a desk. You have to get out, listen to people, understand what they are experiencing and hear what they believe we can do better.”
During the Front Porch Friday events, residents have an opportunity to speak directly with Mayor Wood about the City services and community issues that matter to them. These conversations provide valuable insight that may not always come through formal meetings, reports or emails.
“Some of the best ideas we have implemented in Mishawaka began with a simple conversation with a resident,” Mayor Wood said. “Our citizens experience City services every day. They know what is working, where we can improve and what is happening in their neighborhoods. We need to hear from them.”
Front Porch Friday reflects Mayor Wood’s belief that local government works best when it remains accessible, responsive and connected to the community. Whether the subject is a neighborhood concern, public safety, parks, utilities, streets, development or the overall quality of life in Mishawaka, every conversation helps City leaders better understand the needs and priorities of residents.
The informal setting is intentional. A front porch has traditionally been a place where neighbors gather, relationships are built and honest conversations take place. Front Porch Friday brings that same welcoming spirit to local government.
“We may not always have an immediate answer, and we may not always agree on every issue, but people deserve to be heard and treated with respect,” Mayor Wood said. “Listening builds trust, and trust is essential to good government.”
Mayor Wood thanked everyone who took the time to participate and share their thoughts.
“I am grateful to every resident who stops by and shares what is on there mind,” Mayor Wood said. “Mishawaka belongs to all of us, and its continued success depends on every citizen of Mishawaka. Staying close to our citizens keeps us grounded, makes us more accountable and helps ensure that the decisions we make reflect the community we are privileged to serve. That is what Front Porch Friday—and the Mishawaka way—are all about.”
