During the last 15 years, Leo has courageously faced different health challenges, including being a 14-year cancer survivor. Though through it all, he remained positive, fought bravely, and faced every challenge head on.
Despite his health challenges, Leo proudly served in the Mishawaka Police Department. He was sworn in on January 1st, 1967, and later stepped into the role as Chief of Police on December 4th, 1987. He retired on November 18th, 1992.
In the honor of Chief Daggy and all he did for the City; Mayor Dave Wood has ordered all flags at City buildings and City parks to remain at half-mast until the evening of the day of his interment. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
“Chief was a great Mishawaka leader, public servant, gentleman, family man and good Mishawaka man. He was also a personal friend, mentor and great example for me and for all to follow.” says Mayor Dave Wood. “I had the pleasure and honor of serving with him on the Mishawaka Police Pension Board for several years. Mishawaka is a better, safer place because of his service and dedication.”
Leo Daggy will be remembered for his contagious sense of humor, his love for music and dancing, and the happiness he brought to those around him. He never met a stranger and had a special way of making everyone feel like family. His warmth, laughter, and joyful spirit will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends.
Please keep the entire Daggy family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
