The City of Mishawaka is proud to announce Joshua Jester has been appointed by Mayor Dave Wood to serve as the 21st Fire Chief of the Mishawaka Fire Department.
Chief Jester began his career with the Mishawaka Fire Department in 2012, steadily advancing through the ranks and serving in a variety of operational and leadership roles. Prior to his appointment as Fire Chief, he served as Assistant Chief, where he was responsible for overseeing the department’s Training Division, as well as hiring and recruitment, while also contributing to strategic planning, personnel development, and the department’s long-term organizational readiness.
Chief Jester holds an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science and Safety Technology from Vincennes University and is recognized for his forward-thinking leadership style and commitment to professional excellence. He has earned both the Chief Fire Officer (CFO) and Chief Training Officer (CTO) designations from the Center for Public Safety Excellence. In 2024, Chief Jester was named to the Michiana 40 Under Forty class of leaders by the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is also a graduate of the Indiana Fire Chief’s Executive Academy, Class 6.
A resident of the area since joining the department, Chief Jester and his wife, Lauren, have four children—Jase and triplets Josiah, Jaylon, and Josie. He remains deeply committed to public service and is honored to lead the department into its next chapter of service to the community.
