Mishawaka Fire Department Crews Complete CPR Scenario Training with Outstanding Results.

Written by: Assistant Fire Chief Joshua Jester.

Over the course of three days, all Mishawaka Fire Department crews participated in a series of advanced CPR scenario training and testing sessions using the department’s iSimulate training system. This hands-on, high-fidelity simulation technology allows crews to engage in realistic cardiac arrest scenarios, enabling them to refine their skills and decision-making under pressure.

We are proud to report that every crew achieved an overall CPR performance score above 90%, a testament to their commitment to excellence in emergency medical care. Even more impressive, all crews successfully completed their final testing scenarios without a single pause in chest compressions lasting longer than 10 seconds—including during the delivery of defibrillation shocks. This level of performance meets and exceeds national best practice standards for high-quality CPR, which has been shown to dramatically improve patient outcomes.

In addition to the training, the Mishawaka Fire Department was honored to have our Medical Director, Dr. Steven Joyce, attend the sessions. His support, oversight, and continued partnership are invaluable to the ongoing professional development of our EMS personnel. Dr. Joyce observed multiple scenarios and provided helpful feedback to the crews, ensuring that our department continues to deliver evidence-based, patient-focused care to the citizens of Mishawaka.

The Mishawaka Fire Department responds to thousands of medical emergencies each year, with over 75% of total call volume being EMS-related. Continuous training and evaluation like this not only keep our skills sharp but help save lives in our community. We remain committed to excellence in emergency medical response and deeply appreciate the dedication of our personnel and partners who make this level of service possible.
