Mishawaka Welcomes Newest MPD Patrol Officer First Class: Jacob Furlong
The City of Mishawaka is proud to introduce the newest member of the Mishawaka Police Department—Officer Jacob Furlong—who was officially sworn in this past Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, by Mayor Dave Wood during the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting.
Officer Furlong joins MPD as a Patrol Officer First Class, bringing with him valuable law enforcement experience as a lateral transfer from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in California. His decision to continue his public service career here in the Princess City speaks to the strength of our police department and the community-focused culture that defines Mishawaka.
Before entering law enforcement, Officer Furlong honorably served our nation in both the United States Army and the Army National Guard. His military service instilled in him the discipline, integrity, and dedication that he now brings to the residents of Mishawaka.
Officer Furlong holds degrees from Purdue Global University and Kaplan University, demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning—one of the hallmarks of the Mishawaka Way. Outside of his professional responsibilities, he enjoys the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
Chief Arendt and the leadership team at the Mishawaka Police Department expressed enthusiasm about the skills and perspective Officer Furlong brings to MPD.
“Jacob’s training, experience, and strong sense of duty make him an outstanding addition to our department,” said Chief Alex Arendt. “We are excited to welcome him to the MPD family and to the Mishawaka community.”
Mayor Dave Wood echoed this sentiment, noting, “We are grateful whenever dedicated public servants choose Mishawaka as their home. Officer Furlong’s record of service—military and law enforcement—reflects the very best qualities we value in our officers.”
The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved his appointment.
Please join us in welcoming Officer Jacob Furlong to the Mishawaka Police Department. We look forward to his contributions as he serves, protects, and builds positive relationships with the people of our great city.
