El Consejo Asesor Juvenil del Alcalde (MYAC) est\u00e1 abierto a estudiantes de secundaria que viven o asisten a la escuela en Mishawaka, Indiana. Los estudiantes son nominados para formar parte del MYAC debido a su excelencia acad\u00e9mica, liderazgo y participaci\u00f3n comunitaria que exhiben en su escuela y comunidad. Los estudiantes aprenden sobre el gobierno municipal, las empresas del \u00e1rea y participan en el Departamento de Parques de Mishawaka y otras actividades de la Ciudad de Mishawaka que se llevan a cabo en nuestra comunidad. This November, Mishawaka showed the power of giving back.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Students from the Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood Youth Advisory Council packed and delivered food boxes to local families and veterans\u2014turning a simple food drive into something truly meaningful.<\/span><\/p>

As one student said, \u201cthis year\u2019s food drive had the most donations, and we are helping families more than ever before!\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>

These young leaders didn\u2019t wait for someone else to act\u2014they stepped up. \u00a0MYAC hand-delivered Thanksgiving boxes to Mishawaka families, veterans, and neighbors who could use a little extra help this season. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Step Into Mishawaka\u2019s History with Shoe City<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Mayor Wood and the Mishawaka Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) recently celebrated the city’s rich industrial heritage with the unveiling of their latest project, “Shoe City.” Honoring Mishawaka\u2019s legacy as a center for shoe manufacturing\u2014particularly the iconic Red Ball Jet brand\u2014the initiative highlights both the pride in the city\u2019s past and the creativity of today\u2019s youth. The students behind the project raised over $63,000 through generous contributions from local businesses, private donors, and organizations. These funds were then matched by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and the Patronicity Program, bringing the total to more than $98,000. Later this year, residents and visitors can look forward to seeing a series of 4 ft by 6 ft Red Ball Jet-inspired shoes installed around the city. Each installation will feature a QR code sharing the history of Ball Band and its impact on Mishawaka.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

El alcalde Wood y MYAC cortaron la cinta de su Proyecto de Liderazgo 2022, el Mishawaka Pocket Park. El Pocket Park, que fue dise\u00f1ado conceptualmente por MYAC, es un hermoso parque exclusivo en el coraz\u00f3n del centro hist\u00f3rico de Mishawaka.<\/span><\/p>

La planificaci\u00f3n del parque de bolsillo comenz\u00f3 el oto\u00f1o pasado y fue posible gracias a los esfuerzos de financiaci\u00f3n colectiva de los estudiantes. En s\u00f3lo dos meses, MYAC pudo recaudar m\u00e1s de $50.000 de empresas locales, donantes privados y organizaciones locales. La ciudad de Mishawaka traslad\u00f3 la ubicaci\u00f3n del Ayuntamiento de la antigua escuela Bingham en 600 E. Tercera Calle<\/a> al antiguo edificio Liberty Mutual en 100 Lincolnway Oeste<\/a>. Esta gran estructura de ladrillo fue remodelada por la Ciudad para combinar tres ubicaciones municipales anteriores, todo en uno. Los departamentos de la ciudad de Mishawaka, la oficina comercial de servicios p\u00fablicos de Mishawaka y el departamento de polic\u00eda de Mishawaka ahora comparten esta misma direcci\u00f3n. Heroes Park, formalmente conocido como Hums Park, est\u00e1 ubicado en el lado sureste de Mishawaka. El MYAC revitaliz\u00f3 este parque y lo dise\u00f1\u00f3 espec\u00edficamente para adolescentes. Esta importante inversi\u00f3n de $500,000 fue una combinaci\u00f3n de fondos de la ciudad, subvenciones de My Community My Vision y Patronicity, y donaciones de patrocinadores locales. <\/span><\/span>\nAndrew Rimelspach, known to most as AJ, is a junior at Penn High School where he\u2019s actively involved in rugby, baseball, and several student clubs. Passionate about helping others, AJ is a strong advocate for people feeling happy, confident, and comfortable in their own skin. As a member of the Executive Committee, he\u2019s excited to help lead the Mayor's Youth Advisory Council to new heights. In his free time, AJ enjoys being with friends and family and meeting new people. Looking ahead, he plans to major in civil engineering, with potential minors in government and business.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

<\/span><\/span>\nCaitlyn \u201cCJ\u201d Vantine is a senior at Penn High School with a passion for storytelling, civic engagement, and community connection. She plans to pursue a future in journalism and political science. At Penn, CJ is an active member of the Penn News Network, Kingsmen Court (student government), Freshman Mentoring, and the Girls Cross Country team. Outside of school, CJ enjoys spending time in nature and hanging out with her two dogs, Pugsly and Izzy. She is also a dedicated member of the Mayor\u2019s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC), where she values the real-world experience and the deeper connection it gives her to her community. She enjoys photography, art, and spending time with her family. This past summer, she completed a two-week apprenticeship at Notre Dame\u2019s Raclin Murphy Art Museum, deepening her passion for art. Eliza also serves as Treasurer of the Mayor\u2019s Youth Advisory Council, where she enjoys learning about local government and collaborating with students from other schools. She plans to major in Psychology and hopes to attend college in a big city.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>

Ryan also plays on the Marian basketball team and juggles two part-time jobs outside of school. In addition, he runs a small business offering lawn care, leaf-raking, and power washing services. During the summer, he enjoys camping, playing club basketball, and going to the beach.
