\nCity of Mishawaka and I&M Remind Community about Safety Precautions at the Pricket Marina Dog Park<\/strong><\/p>\n

MISHAWAKA, Ind., Marh 19, 2025 \u2013 The City of Mishawaka and Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) are reminding the public of work being done on high voltage power lines at the Pricket Marina Dog Park.\u00a0 Out of an abundance of caution amid an ongoing project, a temporary fence has been installed to separate the active construction area from the usable part of the dog park.<\/p>\n

The dog park, located on Jefferson Boulevard near the Saint Joseph River, will continue to have the I&M construction Zone blocked off as it moves forward with its East Mishawaka Transmission Line Project. I&M Crews have installed a fence in the dog park area to secure the active construction site allowing crews to trim large trees and various vegetation away from high-voltage power lines.<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety for the public and our employees is the top priority,\u201d said Mona Livingston, I&M\u2019s Business Operations Support Manager. \u201cI&M and the City of Mishawaka decided it would be best to protect park visitors and their pets with additional safety measures. We know the construction zone fence is a very temporary inconvenience for many in the area and we will work to restore the park as quickly and safely as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Pricket Marina Dog Park has remained open to the community and pets since the safety fence was installed. The southern portion of the dog park will be open, while the northern half will remain closed through early summer, weather permitting. Safety is paramount, and dogs and their owners must not enter the construction zone at any time.\u00a0 Regular patrols of the park are ongoing to ensure the public’s safety.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the duration of the project, we must mandate that community members stay out of the active construction zone and keep your distance from workers and equipment for your safety,\u201d<\/strong> said, Matthew Lentsch, Executive Director of Development and Governmental Affairs. \u201cWe will collaborate with I&M to ensure safety for those visiting the park and that there is minimal impact to the park itself. We appreciate the community understanding and working with us and I&M.\u201d<\/p>\n

The East Mishawaka Transmission Line Project involves rebuilding nearly 4 miles of high-voltage power lines and replacing aging lattice towers from the 1920s with modern steel poles. The upgrade to the local electric system will increase the reliability of the service for communities who receive power from the high-voltage power lines.
