MPD Records and Services Division
The Records and Services Division of the Mishawaka Police Department retains all police reports and issues various permits.
Forms of payment accepted: Credit/Debit Cards/Cash/Money Orders/Checks. An ATM is available in the lobby.

Accident Reports
Can be purchased online at BuyCrash.com, Carfax.com, via email or phone at the Records Division Office for $5.00 per copy.
Cannot be faxed or mailed until fee is received.

Firearm Permits
You must follow several steps to obtain a gun permit.
REQUIREMENTS
- Live within Mishawaka city limits
- Be at least 18 years of age
- No local fees
PROCESS
- Go online to: https://www.in.gov/isp/ (for questions, call 317-232-8264).
- Fill out your handgun permit AND schedule a (L1 – digital) fingerprint appointment here.
- Please provide the IdentoGo application # and receipt from IdentoGo.
IF YOU FAIL TO SCHEDULE THE APPOINTMENT DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS
- Go online to: www.L1enrollment.com OR
- Call 1-877-472-6917 to schedule the appointment.
- Once you have completed the online steps, come to the Mishawaka Police Department Records Division with your application number to pay your local fee.
Vin Checks

- $5.00 fee (Payable in advance at the Records Division. Must be in person.)
- An officer will inspect and certify the vehicle.
- Vehicle must be within city limits (4 digit address or the vehicle must be present at the time of the request)
- No salvage title services
Protective Orders
To file for a protective order, visit the St. Joseph County website.
Local Background Checks
Must be requested in person at the Records Division.
- Checks are accepted in person only, not available for payment online or by phone.
- Only for cases investigated by the Mishawaka Police Department.
- Fee: $10.00.
- Must provide a valid picture ID.
- Fees are payable by: Cash, credit/debit cards, personal check, money order or cashier check ONLY.
