Coming up in the City of Mishawaka, Goats on the Go will deploy Eco-Friendly Vegetation Management along the Riverbank at Wilson Boulevard and Battell Park.
Goats on the Go is providing the City with its innovative, environmentally friendly land clearing service to the Riverbank along Wilson Boulevard and Battell Park. Over the next month this targeted grazing project, covering just over four acres, aims to control invasive species and improve river visibility for those enjoying the Riverwalk.
Using a managed herd of goats, the project focuses on removing unwanted and invasive vegetation such as honeysuckle, poison ivy, poison oak, and other nuisance plant species. Unlike traditional land-clearing methods, goats selectively consume problem vegetation while causing minimal impact to desirable plants, helping restore balance to the natural landscape.
The grazing process offers several environmental benefits including no use of poisonous herbicides, reduced risk of erosion, natural suppression of invasive plant regrowth, and natural fertilization.
Each acre is expected to take approximately three to five days to clear, with the full project anticipated to be completed over several weeks, depending on site conditions. For public awareness and safety, signage will be placed approximately 20 yards from grazing zones to inform visitors and passersby about the project.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to observe the goats from a safe distance and learn more about this sustainable approach to land management while enjoying improved views along the river.
