Mayor Wood Shares his Perspective on the grand opening of the Mishawaka Athletic Center

What an exciting day this is for Mishawaka and for the future of our city. Today, we gathered not only to cut a ribbon but to open the doors to endless opportunities. The grand opening of the Mishawaka Athletic Center was more than just a celebration of a new building—it’s a celebration of progress, growth, and the power of partnerships.

This center represents a significant milestone not only for youth sports but for the future economic development of our community. We are laying a foundation that will strengthen our economy, energize our local businesses, and enhance the quality of life for all of us who proudly call Mishawaka home.”

“This is not just a facility; it’s a beacon of opportunity. The Mishawaka Athletic Center will be a hub of activity that attracts visitors from near and far. We’ll host tournaments, games, and training sessions for athletes of all ages and abilities. This influx of visitors will fuel our local economy—families who come here will stay in our hotels, dine in our restaurants, and shop in our stores. The economic ripple effect will be felt across the city and beyond.

We know how powerful sports can be as a driver of community spirit and pride. But it’s also a powerful economic engine. This facility is poised to become a destination not just for sports, but for tourism and business. It will bring people together, fuel our local businesses, and further establish Mishawaka as a thriving and dynamic community.”

“Of course, none of this would have been possible without the hard work and collaboration of so many people. I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to Card and Associates for their vision and leadership throughout this project. Your commitment to providing premier athletic facilities and your partnership with our city have been invaluable.

I also want to thank Visit South Bend for their ongoing support, helping to promote Mishawaka as a premier destination for events like the ones this facility will host. And to the City of Mishawaka team and everyone who has had a hand in making this project come to life—thank you. This is truly a testament to the power of collaboration, and we should all be proud of what we’ve achieved together.”

“This center, however, is not just about today. It’s about the future. It’s about investing in our youth and creating opportunities for them to grow, learn, and compete in a world-class facility right here at home. We’ve built a space that will serve generations to come—a place where dreams are nurtured, talents are honed, and the values of teamwork and perseverance are instilled.

For our young athletes, this is where your journey begins. Whether you aspire to compete at the collegiate or professional level or whether sports teach you life lessons you’ll carry forward, this center will be a part of your story.

But it’s also about what this facility represents for the larger community. The Mishawaka Athletic Center is a symbol of growth, of our city’s forward momentum, and of the bright future ahead for Mishawaka. It’s another example of how we are working together to build a city where families, businesses, and visitors want to be. A place of opportunity, a place of pride.”

“So today, as we opened the doors to this incredible new facility, let us continues to celebrate what we’ve accomplished and look forward to all that lies ahead. The Mishawaka Athletic Center will serve us well for years to come—not only as a home for youth sports but as a catalyst for economic development, tourism, and community spirit.

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this vision a reality. We are stronger together, and this Athletic Center is proof of that. Here’s to the future of youth sports, to the future of Mishawaka, and to the many great things to come!”
