Mayor Dave Wood’s Representative and City Clerk Deborah S. (Ladyga) Block, Mishawaka Common Council: to Host the National Workers Memorial Day Service of 2026, in partnership with The United Way of St Joseph County and the AFL-CIO.

 What:   Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and City Clerk Debbie Ladyga-Block announce that in conjunction with organized Labor and AFL-CIO Northern Indiana, Area Labor Federation will be holding a special observance of Workers Memorial Day.

The Mishawaka Worker’s Memorial was dedicated on Labor Day, September 4, 2023.

When:   April 28, 2026 at 11:30 am

 Where:   The Ball Band Memorial at the corner of Main Street and Mishawaka Avenue.  If it is raining or a strong possibility of rain or storms the event will be moved to the Mishawaka City Hall, Council Chambers at 100 Lincoln Way West.

Background:   The Unions of the Northern Indiana Area Labor Federation AFL-CIO, and our allies will observe Workers Memorial Day on the date of the passage of Occupation Safety Health Act. We gather to remember those who have suffered a work injury or died on the job, and to organize the fight for safe jobs. This year we will also celebrate the passage of the work site safety law just passed in the Indiana State legislature.
