Proposal for Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in Ironworks area of Mishawaka

The City of Mishawaka is excited to announce plans for the implementation of a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) in downtown Mishawaka, in accordance with Indiana Code 7.1-3-31. This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the vibrancy and economic vitality of our downtown area.

Over the years, the City of Mishawaka has made significant investments in downtown park development, including Beutter Park, the Riverwalk, Kamm Island Park, and Ironworks Plaza. These enhancements have not only improved recreational opportunities but have also attracted a diverse array of businesses, shops, entertainment venues, and restaurants to the downtown area.

The creation of a DORA in downtown Mishawaka is aligned with the vision of Mayor Wood’s administration to further promote economic growth and vitality in our city. By allowing patrons to responsibly enjoy alcoholic beverages in designated outdoor areas, we aim to create a more inviting and engaging atmosphere for residents, visitors, and patrons alike.

We firmly believe that the implementation of a DORA will have a positive impact on local businesses, attracting more visitors and patrons to the downtown area. By providing an additional amenity for residents and visitors to enjoy, we anticipate increased foot traffic, longer dwell times, and ultimately, greater economic activity for our local businesses.

Specifically, we propose to establish the DORA in and around Beutter Park and Ironworks Plaza, leveraging the existing infrastructure and amenities in these areas to create a dynamic and welcoming environment for all.

We are excited about the potential of this initiative to further enhance the appeal of downtown Mishawaka and look forward to working collaboratively with stakeholders, businesses, and community members to bring this vision to fruition.

Together, we can create a vibrant and thriving downtown district that benefits residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
