Reminder: Snow Removal Is the Responsibility of Property Owners and Occupants

As winter sets in, the City of Mishawaka would like to remind all residents and property owners of their responsibility to keep sidewalks clear of snow and debris in accordance with Mishawaka Code 58-527.

What the Code Requires:

  • The owner or occupant of any property in the City is responsible for keeping sidewalks adjacent to their property clear of leaves, grass, snow, ice, sand, gravel, dirt, or other debris.
  • After any snowfall, snow must be removed from all sidewalks adjacent to the property within 24 hours of the snowfall.

Keeping sidewalks clear ensures the safety and accessibility of our community during all seasons. Snow-covered or icy sidewalks can be hazardous for pedestrians, especially children walking to school, older adults, and neighbors with mobility challenges.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping to maintain safe and clear sidewalks for everyone. Let’s work together to keep Mishawaka walkable and welcoming, even in the snowiest weather.

If you have any questions about snow removal or your responsibilities, please contact the City of Mishawaka at (574) 258-1612. Thank you for doing your part to make our city a safe and enjoyable place to live!
