The Mayor Dave Wood Youth Advisory Council is unveiling Project Shoe City on Saturday, July 25th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Ironworks Plaza, 235 Ironworks Ave.
The Mayor Dave Wood Youth Advisory Council is a group of high school students who live or attend school in the City of Mishawaka. Students are nominated to serve on the MYAC due to their academic achievements, community involvement, and leadership they exhibit in their school and in their community.
Recently, Mayor Wood and the MYAC celebrated heritage within the City of Mishawaka by unveiling of their latest projects, “Shoe City.” Shoe City honors Mishawaka’s legacy as a center for shoe manufacturing—particularly the iconic Red Ball Jet brand.
The students behind the project raised over $63,000 through generous contributions from local businesses, private donors, and organizations. These funds were then matched by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and the Patronicity Program, bringing the total to more than $98,000.
On July 25th, the community can expect to see a series of 4 ft by 6 ft Red Ball Jet-inspired shoes installed around the City. Each installation will feature a QR code sharing the history of Ball Band and its impact on Mishawaka.
The City of Mishawaka hopes to see the community there to celebrate the MYAC for all their accomplishments, and the rich history that can be found within Mishawaka.
