Bulky Waste Collection Reminder – Working Together for Reliable Service

Bulky Waste Collection Reminder – Working Together for Reliable Service

The City of Mishawaka would like to provide a helpful reminder regarding our waste collection services in partnership with Waste Management (WM).

Since transitioning to WM service on January 1, 2025, our goal has been to provide reliable, convenient curbside service for all residents—and that includes handling bulky waste items in a consistent and safe manner.

Weekly Bulky Waste Pickup

Residents may place up to two (2) bulky waste items at the curb each week on their regular collection day.

There is no need to schedule a separate pickup—WM drivers will identify bulky items during service and call them in for collection.

Important Guidelines for Mattresses & Furniture

To ensure safe handling and compliance with our service agreement, all mattresses and upholstered furniture (couches, box springs, etc.) must be:

  • Fully wrapped in plastic
  • Properly sealed

This requirement protects both workers and equipment and helps maintain sanitary collection standards.

If Items Are Not Wrapped Properly

We understand mistakes can happen, but please be aware:

  • Items that are not properly wrapped may not be collected during regular service
  • WM will be instructed to return for a special pickup
  • A $100 charge will be applied to the customer for that pickup

Helpful Reminders

  • Follow all recycling and waste guidelines to ensure proper collection
  • Keep items accessible and safely placed at the curb
  • Limit bulky waste to two items per week
