Mishawaka Fire Department New Patch.

For generations, the Mishawaka Fire Department patch has represented the men and women who have proudly served this community. It has become a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and service—a symbol that deserves our respect.
As the MFD continues to evolve, we believe their patch should evolve with it. Their new patch is not intended to replace our history. It was designed to honor it. You’ll notice that many of the elements generations of firefighters wore with pride remain. We intentionally preserved the familiar shield shape and overall layout, retained our longstanding “Protect • Prevent • Preserve” motto, and included a proud nod to our great State of Indiana.
At the same time, we wanted their patch to better reflect who the Mishawaka Fire Department is today—and who they will be tomorrow.
The updated design prominently recognizes the 1848 establishment, reminding us that while the MFD continues to change, their commitment to this community has remained constant for more than 175 years. There were also added symbols representing EMS and Technical Rescue, acknowledging the reality of the modern fire service and the broad range of emergencies our members respond to every day. Finally, the new patch has modernized the color palette to create a timeless, professional look that reflects today’s fire service while respecting yesterday’s legacy.
This isn’t about changing who we are. It’s about making sure the symbol on the MFD’s shoulder tells the complete story of who they have always been… and who they are striving to become. Because while a patch may change the Mishawaka Fire Department’s mission never will.
