Subject: Important Update for Mishawaka Utilities Trash and Recycling Customers As we transition to our new waste management partner, Waste Management (WM), I want to share some important updates with you. The official contract with WM begins on January 1, 2025, with service starting on January 2, 2025, due to the New Year’s holiday. If you have not received your WM bins yet, please contact me directly at matthew.lentsch@mishawaka.in.gov . If your bins have not arrived by December 31st, please let us know if you haven’t a received your bins. Rest assured, if you’ve already notified us, your bins are on their way. Holidays, supply , and manpower issues are causing some delays, but we are actively working with WM to ensure prompt delivery.  We believe that at least 99% of the WM bins have already been delivered. Additionally, Republic Services will complete the pickup of all existing trash and recycling bins by December 31, 2024 or soon thereafter. If your bins have not been picked up by then, please email me, and we will do our best to coordinate with Republic Services. Please understand that with over 25,000 bins being picked up and delivered, some delays may occur. If you do not have your WM bins by your next service day starting January 2nd, 2025, please set your trash and recycling out in trash bags, and WM has assured us they will be collected. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition. Click here for additional details about this transition.

Mishawaka Residential Services

Mishawaka Trash Pickup & Recycling

The City of Mishawaka provides residents with curbside trash pickup through our Central Services Division. For information about our pickup schedule or trash regulations, visit this link.

Seasonal Services

We are lucky enough to reside in Northern Indiana and experience all four seasons. This means that in addition to the many year-round services the City of Mishawaka provides, we also perform services that are seasonally appropriate. We have long been committed to helping our residents with seasonal cleanup issues such as leaf removal in the fall and Christmas tree disposal in January and December.

Have questions about a seasonal service? Please contact us for more information.

Street Maintenance

Alley Paving Program

We split the cost of our Alley Paving Program with residents 50/50. We place 2 inches of bituminous pavement across a path 10 feet in width. Upon request, a field inspection of the alley is conducted to determine the feasibility of paving the alley. Please contact us at (574) 258-1619 to file a request to learn more about the program.

Sewer Insurance
Program

Mishawaka’s Engineering Department maintains all sanitary and storm sewers. This department handles recordkeeping for the city sewers and provides technical and administrative assistance to the Sewer Lateral Insurance Program. Need to contact our Engineering Department?

Curb & Sidewalk Replacement Program

First instituted in 1986, this program encourages single-family homeowners to repair or replace deteriorated public curbs and sidewalks adjacent to their property. We will split the cost of repairs 50/50 between the homeowner and the City of Mishawaka. This program is used for the repair of curbs, sidewalks, drive approaches and more. Need to get in touch? Call us at (574) 258-1619 or submit a request.

Disabled Parking
Space Requests

Mishawaka residents with disabilities who require special parking services at their residence can contact the traffic manager at the Engineering Department or the Police Department. Residents will need to submit a request for a disabled parking designation on the street outside of their homes.

Storm Damage

The Central Services Division has many services that help maintain the quality of our neighborhoods. Depending on the season of the year, they include street sweeping, re-paving, patching, crack filling, resurfacing, snowplowing, curbside leaf collection and storm damage pickup. Our employees have become experts in ice storm cleanup after weeks of around-the-clock tree debris pickup.

CENTRAL SERVICES  - 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday - Friday
