Regulations for the City of Mishawaka

CITY OF MISHAWAKA
LICENSING AND REGISTRATIONS
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2011

General Contractors:

Types of contractors who require a license are general contractors, home builders, general remodelers, concrete contractors, framing contractors, siding contractors, roofing contractors, drywall contractors, trim contractors, steel erectors, fire protection contractors, swimming pool contractors, insulating contractors, window contractors, etc.

Requirements to Obtain a License:

  1. Fill out the application form.
  2. Take a test in the office and pass with a minimum of 70% correct.
  3. Obtain an original surety or permit bond in the amount of $5,000 payable to the City of Mishawaka.
  4. Provide a copy of current certificate of liability insurance and workers’ compensation (if applicable).
  5. Pay a licensing fee of $125.
  6. Make a copy of your picture ID.
  7. Note that licenses expire on December 31 of each year.

Electrical Contractors:

Original License:

  1. Fill out application. Testing accomplished by a professional testing company/organization or a current license with similar or greater testing standards will be accepted at the discretion of the Building Commissioner.
  2. Pay a license fee of $125.
  3. Obtain an original $5,000 surety bond payable to the City of Mishawaka.
  4. Make a copy of your picture ID.

Renewal of License:

  1. Must be renewed with renewal date being December 31 of each year.
  2. Present current original updated $5,000 bond.
  3. Pay a $125 renewal fee.

HVAC Contractors:

Original License:

  1. Fill out application.
  2. Proof of Examination from an accredited agency. If applicant holds a current HVAC license from another jurisdiction, it may be accepted at the discretion of the Building Commissioner.
  3. Pay a license fee of $125 to the City of Mishawaka.
  4. Obtain original $5,000 surety bond payable to the City of Mishawaka along with certificate of liability insurance and workers’ compensation (if applicable).
  5. Present copy of your picture ID.

HVAC Contractors:

Renewal of License:

  1. Licenses expire on December 31 and must be renewed before January 1 to remain valid.
  2. Present original updated $5,000 bond/continuation along with certificate of insurance.
  3. Pay a renewal fee of $125.

Plumbing Contractors:

Registration:

  1. Show proof of valid state plumbing license.
  2. Pay a fee of $125 to the City of Mishawaka for yearly registration.
  3. Present copy of your picture ID.
  4. Note that licenses expire December 31 of each year.

Demolition Contractors:

  1. File original $5,000 demolition bond with the City of Mishawaka yearly.
  2. Fill out registration form.
  3. Present copy of your picture ID.

Signage Contractors:

    1. Obtain original $5,000 surety bond payable to the City of Mishawaka.
    2. Pay $125 registration fee.
    3. Present copy of your picture ID.
    4. Note that registration expires December 31 of each year.
