George Wilson’s Park Announces 2027 Expansion

Thanks to a $1.5 million Tourism Capital Investment Fund award from the St. Joseph County Hotel-Motel Tax Board and Visit South Bend Mishawaka, we have an incredible opportunity before us. Because of their support, George Wilson Park will continue to grow as a vibrant community asset for generations to come.

What if families could tube, ski, and snowboard without depending on Mother Nature?

The answer is Neveplast — the global leader in artificial ski slopes and tubing runs. Neveplast is the first certified synthetic surface engineered with a coefficient of friction designed to closely mimic real snow. This innovative technology will allow residents and visitors to enjoy tubing, skiing, and snowboarding regardless of weather conditions.

When completed, the hill is expected to include:

  • Four 300-foot tubing lanes: including two with tunnels riders will pass through and a misting system to enhance the experience
  • Two ski and snowboard lanes: One approximately 61 ft x 350 ft & One 35 ft x 200 ft terrain park lane misting system
  • A 300-foot carpet lift to transport guests to the top of the hill — eliminating the long walk uphill and making the experience accessible for all ages

This project also addresses several long-overdue upgrades across the park:

  • A new heated restroom facility with four unisex stalls, connected to city water and sewer for the first time
  • A new ticketing and concession building connected to the city’s fiber network
  • Enhancements to our state-recognized disc golf course, including new tee pads, improved signage, and hole upgrades
  • Lighting upgrades, restoration of the teepee at the top of the hill, and new park signage

At its core, this project is about access. We pride ourselves on breaking down barriers — particularly those tied to affordability. Families who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience skiing, snowboarding, or tubing will now be able to do so right here in our community for a fraction of the price as your normal ski resorts.

“The city is continually pursuing opportunities to develop distinctive amenities that enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Thanks to the generous support of the St. Joseph County Hotel Motel Tax Board, we are able to bring a project to fruition that will have a meaningful and lasting impact throughout our region. Without their support, we would not be able to introduce this innovative addition to George Wilson’s Park, creating a true four-season destination for our community.” said Dave Wood, Mayor of Mishawaka.
