Air Quality Action Day Today – Friday, July 17th

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has declared that today Friday, July 17th is an Air Quality Action Day in our region for Ozone and Particulate Matter.

Ozone

Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups

Sensitive groups (people with respiratory diseases, older adults, and children) should reduce prolonged outdoor exertion, and continue checking air quality today to determine when it is best to be active outdoors.

Particulate Matter (PM 2.5)

Unhealthy

Smoke will linger in the region today despite evening rain chances, PM 2.5 reading will reach the Unhealthy (Red) range throughout northern Indiana.

Fine particulate matter settles deep into the lungs and cannot be easily exhaled.

If able, reduce prolonged outdoor exertion, and continue checking air quality this week to determine when it is best to be active outdoors.

Do your part to help clean the air by taking action!

  1. Bike, walk, carpool, or take the bus
  2. Use teleconferencing.
  3. Conserve fuel by combining trips
  4. Refuel your car in the evening
  5. Don’t use drive-thrus, park and go inside.
