Honoring Workers Memorial Day: A Personal Reflection
Yesterday, Sunday, April 28th, as I had the privilege to offer the invocation at our Workers Memorial Day ceremony, I couldn’t help but reflect on the deeper meaning of this solemn occasion.
For me, Workers Memorial Day is more than just a ceremony; it’s a time to remember and honor the lives of those who have tragically lost their lives or been injured in the line of duty. It’s a call to action to advocate for safer workplaces and better protections for workers everywhere.
Worker’s Memorial Day held an even greater significance for me as I remembered my brother-in-law Terry, who tragically lost his life in a workplace accident in 1999.
Terry’s life was cut short while doing a job he was not trained for but pressured to do. His passing deeply impacted our family, and I’ll never forget the devastating moment when we received the tragic news.
Sharing Terry’s story during the ceremony was a deeply personal experience for me. It’s my hope and prayer that by remembering Terry and others like him, we can learn valuable lessons from their preventable deaths and work towards ensuring that no more families have to endure such heartbreak.
Yesterday’s event was an extraordinary opportunity for our community to come together, pay tribute to those we’ve lost, and reaffirm our commitment to creating safer workplaces for all.
Let’s continue to advocate for change and honor the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
