John Roggeman Sworn in as City of Mishawaka Corporation Counsel

Tuesday, 9/3/24, Mayor Dave Wood Swore in John Roggeman as the City of Mishawaka Corporation Counsel during the Board of Public Works meeting. John takes on this new role after serving as City Attorney for several years, following the retirement of Pat Hinkle nine months ago.

Mayor Wood wasn’t in a rush to fill the Corporation Counsel position immediately after the retirement. Instead, the Mayor took the time to evaluate the needs of the City and the Administration. During this period, John stepped up, taking on additional duties with great effectiveness. His deep-rooted love for Mishawaka, instilled by a long history of public service in his family, was evident in the dedication he showed.

As many the Mayor and many Mishawaka citizens know that John is deeply passionate about Mishawaka and serves our Princess City with unwavering commitment. His move to Corporation Counsel is a natural progression of his service, and Mayor Wood believe he is ideally suited to this role.

John will manage the daily operations of the Law Department, along with the legal needs of our various Departments, with the assistance of our part-time attorneys. In those rare, special circumstances where additional legal resources are required, John will switch from “running back” to “quarterback,” assessing the situation, identifying unique needs, and seeking assistance from outside resources, including our trusted partners at Bliss McKnight and other consultants as needed.

John is known for his many years of outstanding service on the City Council before before Mayor Wood “recruited” him to the Administration. He is extremely capable of serving as the City’s legal “referee.”

Please join Mayor Dave Wood in congratulating John Roggeman on his new role.
