Subject: Important Update for Mishawaka Utilities Trash and Recycling Customers As we transition to our new waste management partner, Waste Management (WM), I want to share some important updates with you. The official contract with WM begins on January 1, 2025, with service starting on January 2, 2025, due to the New Year’s holiday. If you have not received your WM bins yet, please contact us WM directly at MIOHINPublicSector@wm.com and/or the customer care line at 866-797-9018. If your bins have not arrived by December 31st, please let us know if you haven’t a received your bins. Rest assured, if you’ve already notified us, your bins are on their way. Holidays, supply, and manpower issues are causing some delays, but we are actively working with WM to ensure prompt delivery.  We believe that at least 99% of the WM bins have already been delivered. Additionally, Republic Services will complete the pickup of all existing trash and recycling bins by December 31, 2024 or soon thereafter. If your bins have not been picked up by then, please email me, and we will do our best to coordinate with Republic Services. Please understand that with over 25,000 bins being picked up and delivered, some delays may occur. If you do not have your WM bins by your next service day starting January 2nd, 2025, please set your trash and recycling out in trash bags, and WM has assured us they will be collected. Mishawaka Common Council has approved a new solid waste Agreement with Waste Management (WM)

The City of Mishawaka is pleased to announce that the Mishawaka Common Council has approved a new solid waste contract with Waste Management (WM), which will take effect on January 1, 2025. This partnership marks a step forward for our community, bringing enhanced waste services to residents and businesses throughout Mishawaka. WM’s commitment to reliability and sustainability will ensure a more streamlined, environmentally responsible waste management system for our city.

Under this new contract, residents can expect consistent weekly pickups for trash, recycling, and bulky items. This frequency aims to keep our neighborhoods cleaner, reduce overflow, and provide a convenient and dependable solution for waste disposal. WM’s approach aligns well with our city’s values of efficiency and sustainability, providing recycling options that are easier to access and manage.

The new agreement also strengthens customer service responsiveness. WM has committed to working closely with the City of Mishawaka to address resident needs swiftly and effectively, which should make for a smoother experience for all residents. Enhanced recycling options will allow Mishawaka residents to better contribute to environmental health and sustainability, a benefit that both the City and WM are excited to offer.
