Keep Your Water Flowing This Winter: Tips to Avoid Frozen Pipes As temperatures plummet this winter, the Mishawaka Utilities Water Division is asking all Mishawaka residents and MU Water customers to take simple precautions to protect their homes and our water system from the costly and inconvenient damage caused by frozen water lines. When temperatures drop below freezing for an extended period, water in pipes can freeze, expand, and cause pipes to burst, leading to water loss and expensive repairs. To help prevent this, we recommend letting your water trickle from a faucet during frigid weather. A small, steady stream of water can keep your lines flowing and reduce the risk of freezing. Why Should You Let Your Water Trickle? Moving water is less likely to freeze. It relieves pressure in your pipes, minimizing the risk of bursting. It’s an affordable and easy way to protect your home during extreme cold.

Dec. 9, 1956 – July 31, 2007

Thomas C. Deal, 50, of Mishawaka, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, in a work-related accident. He was born in Mishawaka on December 9, 1956, to Larry R. and Lois J. (Wilson) Deal. He was preceded in death by his father. Tom married Marcia Goddard in Mishawaka on April 15, 1995. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marcia; a stepson, Nathan (Sara) Lewis of Mishawaka; a daughter, Adrienne Deal, and a son, Chase Deal, both at home. He is also survived by his mother, Lois Deal of Mishawaka; a sister, Pam (John) Allen of Osceola; his brother, Jack Deal of Mishawaka; his grandmother, Marguerite Deal of Osceola; and his mother-in-law, Barbara Goddard of Mishawaka, whom he fondly referred to as Dorothy. Also by his and Marcia’s many extended family members. Tom graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1975. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Mishawaka Wrestling Club, ISWA, NRA, I.B.E.W and was a past member of the De Amicis Club. He was employed with the Mishawaka Utilities Electric Department as an equipment operator, having been employed with the city for 27 years. Tom was a devoted husband and father. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and gun enthusiast. Tom was the best wrestling dad and football coach, and his love for sports was evidenced by his involvement in his son’s Mishawaka Wrestling Club and youth football league. He loved the outdoors, particularly working in his own yard. Tom marched to the beat of his own drummer. Tom is loved and will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Adrian Alan Peterson, 44, passed away unexpectedly while at work on Monday, April 15, 2019. He was born on August 2, 1974 in South Bend, IN to Linda (Bruno) Trimboli and Gary (Katie) Peterson. Adrian was a 1993 graduate of Mishawaka High School and was employed as a treatment operator for the Mishawaka WW Utilities. In 2002, Adrian and Sheila (Northrop) Peterson were united in marriage. Their union was blessed with two wonderful daughters, Emily and Kayley Peterson whom he adored. Adrian appreciated nature and took great pride in his work, but above all he was a loving father, husband, and son, as well as a loyal brother and friend. In addition to his wife and parents, Adrian is survived by his brothers, Scott (Sintia) Peterson and Gary Pulling; mother-in-law, Norma (Larry) Clayton; sister-in-law, Amy DeLee; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Northrop.
