Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulate Matter – Thursday, June 5th

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has declared that tomorrow June 5th is an Air Quality Action Day in northern Indiana for Fine Particulate Matter.

Ozone

Moderate

Particulate Matter (PM 2.5)

Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups

Fine particulate matter settles deep into the lungs and cannot be easily exhaled.

Sensitive groups (people with respiratory diseases, older adults, and children) should reduce prolonged outdoor exertion, and continue checking air quality this week to determine when it is best to be active outdoors.

Do your part to help clean the air by taking action!

  1. Bike, walk, carpool, or take the bus
  2. Perform regular vehicle maintenance
  3. Conserve fuel by combining trips
  4. Refuel your car in the evening
  5. Reduce engine idling time
