MISHAWAKA, Ind., Marh 19, 2025 – The City of Mishawaka and Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) are reminding the public of work being done on high voltage power lines at the Pricket Marina Dog Park.  Out of an abundance of caution amid an ongoing project, a temporary fence has been installed to separate the active construction area from the usable part of the dog park. The Pricket Marina Dog Park has remained open to the community and pets since the safety fence was installed. The southern portion of the dog park is currently open, while the northern half will remain closed through early summer, weather permitting. Safety is paramount, and dogs and their owners must not enter the construction zone at any time.  Regular patrols of the park are ongoing to ensure the public’s safety.  During the duration of the project, we must mandate that community members stay out of the active construction zone and keep your distance from workers and equipment for your safety.

Correction: Clarification on Solid Waste Contract/Services with Waste Management

Correction: Clarification on Solid Waste Contract with Waste Management

Recently, a media outlet incorrectly reported information about Mishawaka’s new solid waste contract with Waste Management (WM), effective January 1, 2025. The report mistakenly suggested that Mishawaka residents could opt out of this new service in favor of continuing with the current provider. This is not accurate.

After a thorough review process, the Mishawaka Common Council approved the contract with WM providing solid waste and recycling services to all Mishawaka residents. This transition will ensure that all citizens receive uniform, reliable waste management services without the need to make individual arrangements or opt in or out of the program. The single-provider model which is what we currently do under the agreement with the current vendor is designed to increase efficiency, maintain quality, and keep costs stable for our residents.

WM will begin serving Mishawaka with curbside collection, and our residents will see enhanced services, improved recycling options, and streamlined customer support. WM is committed to providing quality service, and they’re prepared to answer questions as we move forward with this transition. For transparency and to keep our community informed, we’ll be posting a detailed FAQ about the WM services on the City’s website as well as the WM – City of Mishawaka microsite. You’ll also see regular updates through our social media channels.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We’re working closely with WM to ensure a seamless transition and will continue providing updates as needed. Please reach out with any questions, and we look forward to starting this new chapter in service excellence for Mishawaka.

Sincerely,
City of Mishawaka
