At approximately 8:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, NIPSCO became aware of a gas main hit at 1032 E. 12th St. in Mishawaka. NIPSCO supervisors and crews are onsite to assess damage and ensure the area remains safe. 12th Street is currently closed between Byrkit and Nerrifield. The Mishawaka Fire Dept. is on site and assisting. Approximately 18 customers are currently impacted. Once repairs are complete, re-lights for the impacted customers will begin. NIPSCO crews will arrive carrying company-issued identification to conduct the re-light process for each customer. For the safety of our workers, if you are waiting for a re-light, please leave your front porch light on and move any obstructions in the way of the furnace and gas appliances. Please move any pets into a secure area prior to the service worker entering the home. We appreciate the community’s patience as we work to make these repairs as safely and quickly as possible.
