Keep Your Water Flowing This Winter: Tips to Avoid Frozen Pipes As temperatures plummet this winter, the Mishawaka Utilities Water Division is asking all Mishawaka residents and MU Water customers to take simple precautions to protect their homes and our water system from the costly and inconvenient damage caused by frozen water lines. When temperatures drop below freezing for an extended period, water in pipes can freeze, expand, and cause pipes to burst, leading to water loss and expensive repairs. To help prevent this, we recommend letting your water trickle from a faucet during frigid weather. A small, steady stream of water can keep your lines flowing and reduce the risk of freezing. Why Should You Let Your Water Trickle? Moving water is less likely to freeze. It relieves pressure in your pipes, minimizing the risk of bursting. It’s an affordable and easy way to protect your home during extreme cold.

E. Third St and Main St – Intersection Closure

The City of Mishawaka has been advised by Selge Construction that the intersection of E Third St and S Main St will be closed to all through traffic beginning at 7AM on Monday, April 3rd  for sewer and right of way improvements. Detour signs will be in place to direct traffic to Church St using Fourth St and Lincolnway East. Weather permitting, this closure is expected to be in place until Monday, May 29th.

 

Barricades and signage will be in place during this closure. Motorists are requested to use caution and encouraged to use alternate routes to ensure the safety of the crews working in this area.
