Leaf Pick Up Schedule for Thanksgiving The Mishawaka Central Services Department will be closed Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th in observance of Thanksgiving. We will move through the city in 3 days from November 25th-27th and will do our best to pick up all areas. Please have your leaves raked to the curb by Monday, November 25th. Once we move through an area, we will not return on your scheduled day. Leaves may always be bagged and put out with your weekly trash pick-up or taken to the Mishawaka Recycling Center, 1105 E. 5th St., from 8:30am to 3:15pm, Tuesday through Saturday if you are a City of Mishawaka resident. Please note that the Mishawaka Recycling Center will be closed November 28th and 29th.

National Apprenticeship Week

In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week November 14-18, 2022, Mayor Wood has issued the following proclamation.

City of Mishawaka Proclamation – “National Apprenticeship Week”

WHEREAS, 2022 marks the 85th Anniversary of the National Apprenticeship Act and today, the City of Mishawaka known as the best hometown in American is proud to recognize these professional individuals in our City, community and across the nation; and,

WHEREAS, National Apprenticeship Week is celebrating its 8th anniversary of raising awareness of the vital role Registered Apprenticeships provide in creating opportunities by allowing apprentices to “earn while they learn” and preparing a pathway to good, quality jobs and well-paying careers in the City of Mishawaka and across the nation; and,

WHEREAS, Registered Apprenticeship programs enable employers to develop and train their future workforce while offering career seekers affordable paths to secure high-paying jobs; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Mishawaka recognizes the role of Registered Apprenticeships in expanding opportunities in our workforce that are inclusive of individuals who have been historically underserved, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality, thus providing a path for all qualified individuals, including women, youth, people of color, rural communities, just-involved individuals and individuals with disabilities, to become apprentices and contribute to America’s industries; and,

WHEREAS, the City of Mishawaka recognizes that Registered Apprenticeship, a proven and industry-driven training model, can train our workforce and build a pipeline into good, quality jobs in order to address our nation’s pressing workforce challenges such as rebuilding our country’s infrastructure, addressing critical supply chain demands, supporting a clean energy workforce, modernizing our cybersecurity response, and responding to care economy issues; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, I, David A. Wood, Mayor of the City of Mishawaka, Indiana, do hereby proclaim the days of November 14th through November 20th, in the year of our Lord, the Two Thousand and Twenty-Second and of the Independence of the United States, the Two Hundred and Forty Sixth, and of Mishawaka’s founding, the One Hundred and Eighty Ninth as

“National Apprenticeship Week”

in the City of Mishawaka, and I call upon their employers, colleagues, friends, family and the citizens of Mishawaka to join me in saluting and thanking this extraordinary group.
