School Is Back In Session, So Cool Your Engines!

The Mishawaka Police and Fire Departments united to share with community members Project “Cool Your Engines,” as the 2025-2026 school year starts back up. Project “Cool Your Engines” took place on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, at 9:00 am. The Conference and took place in front of Mishawaka Fire Department’s Station #2 on 700 East McKinley Hwy., Mishawaka, IN 46545.

The Press Conference focused on safety suggestions for motorists, parents, and students. The Mishawaka Fire Department presented their firetrucks which displayed “Cool Your Engines” signage, which will remain posted during the first week of the 2025-2026 school year.

Along with the signage, the Mishawaka Police Department spoke out to remind all that students are returning to school, emphasizing the importance of children’s safety as they travel to and from school. The MPD spoke about being aware of School Speed Zones, watching for yellow-flashing school zone lights and crossing guards at intersections, and staying off electronic devices to avoid distractions. These are precautions the community must follow so that children remain safe.

With the school year in full swing, it is important to remember children’s safety going to and from school. Together, the City of Mishawaka encourages all residents to do their part in keeping the community safe by staying alert, watching for students, and slowing down. By staying alert, the City of Mishawaka can ensure a safe and successful school year.
