The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has declared that today Monday, July 20th is an Air Quality Action Day in our region for Particulate Matter.
Ozone
Moderate
Particulate Matter (PM 2.5)
Unhealthy
High pressure Monday will recirculate the smoke over most of the state with the primary concern remaining the northern half of Indiana. This smoke, in addition to the other meteorological factors such as light winds and predicted flow, will produce high PM2.5 readings.
Fine particulate matter settles deep into the lungs and cannot be easily exhaled.
If able, reduce prolonged outdoor exertion, and continue checking air quality this week to determine when it is best to be active outdoors.
Do your part to help clean the air by taking action!
- Bike, walk, carpool, or take the bus
- Perform regular vehicle maintenance
- Conserve fuel by combining trips
- Refuel your car in the evening
- Reduce engine idling time
