From the streets and sidewalks we travel every day, to the underground sewers and utilities we sometimes take for granted, the Engineering Department is committed to providing exceptional infrastructure to serve the citizens and businesses of Mishawaka for centuries to come.
The Engineering Department is responsible for the design, bidding, and construction management of all public works and capital improvement projects in Mishawaka. These projects may include street, curb and sidewalk improvements, installation and maintenance of traffic signals, school zone warning flashers and traffic signs, and enhancements to the sanitary and storm sewer systems.
In cooperation with the Planning and Community Development Department, the Engineering Department also provides technical assistance to property owners and developers ensuring compliance with City Ordinances and Engineering Standards regarding stormwater management, utility connections, drive approaches, and erosion/sediment control during the planning and construction of new developments in our community.
Special Programs
Mishawaka offers several popular programs to City residents, which are administered by the Engineering Department. These programs include Sewer Insurance, 50/50 Curb and Sidewalk Replacement, 50/50 Alley Paving, and Disabled Parking Spaces.
Permits
Various permits are issued by the Engineering Department for work to be completed within the public right-of-way. These permits include any excavations (digging), sanitary sewer connections, drive approaches, curb and sidewalk replacements, street closure requests, and dumpsters located in the public right-of-way.
