Mayor Dave Wood Presents Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., Outgoing Notre Dame President, with Key to the City of Mishawaka

While the greater Mishawaka area was celebrating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 15th community members from the surrounding area were also honored for their life’s work and impactful efforts.

Most notably was Notre Dame’s outgoing President Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., who received the keys to both Mishawaka and South Bend!

Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood and South Bend’s Mayor and South Bend’s Mayor James Mueller both expressed their appreciation to Father Jenkins for helping bring Michiana together.

“It’s been my privilege to be president of Notre Dame to work with the wonderful people in this room to make it a better community,” Father Jenkins said. “But I believe its best days are ahead of it if we can make this community everything it’s called to be.”

Father Jenkins has been president of Notre Dame since 2005. He is stepping down from his presidency at the end of the academic year and his successor will be Rev. Robert A. Dowd, C.S.C., on July 1.
