Quinto J. Squadroni, 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Holy Cross Rehab in South Bend. He was born on August 16, 1929, in Mishawaka to Ercole and Teresa (Cesari) Squadroni.
On August 26, 1950, he married the former Janine Banicki. They were married for 68 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janine; son, Bruce Squadroni; sisters, Yolanda Clements, Clara Dykhuizen, and Rosie Squadroni; and brother William Squadroni.
Quinto was a Mishawaka Police Officer for 27 years rising to the rank of Assistant Chief before he retired in 1978. Soon after retirement from the force, he along with his wife, Janine, owned and operated Squads Second Precinct for 22 years. He served as a member of the 3rd District Bar Association for many years. After retirement he served on the Alcohol and Tobacco Commission Board of St. Joe County. From his work on the police force and his connections with patrons at Squads, Quinto was well-known throughout the Michiana area. Always ready to engage in conversation or a good game of pinochle, tonk rum, or euchre, he enjoyed interacting with his many friends. Quinto had the innate ability to make friends and treat them like family.
He was a proud member of the DeAmicis Club and was honored to be its oldest and longest living-member. He joined the club at the age of 16 in 1945 and was a continuous member for 79 years. He was proud of his Italian heritage and enjoyed his trip to Santarcangelo, Italy in 1998 with his sons and nephew Dale to connect with his Aunt Auriella and his many Italian cousins.
Quinto was a long-time member of the Italian-American Heritage Society of Notre Dame/Michiana and was chosen as a Columbus Award recipient. He was also a member of The Italian-American Relief Association of Elkhart.
He was a founding member of the Mishawaka High School Alumni Association which began its gathering at Squads Second Precinct. In 2009, Quinto was honored to be inducted into the Mishawaka High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 14th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bavo Catholic Church, 502 W 7th St, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka, IN.
