Spring Trash and Recycling, WM Guidelines for Mishawaka Residents

Weekly Bulky Item Pickup

Bulky waste items (large trash items that don’t fit in your cart) are collected year-round. Residents may leave up to two bulky items at the curb per week on their normal collection day wm.com . This two-item limit is provided at no extra charge as part of your regular service. Examples of bulky items include furniture, appliances, or other large household items. Important: If you are disposing of a mattress or upholstered furniture, it must be wrapped in plastic (or placed in a mattress disposal bag) before being put out for collection wm.com. This precaution is required for the safety and hygiene of the workers and the community. (Appliances containing refrigerant, like refrigerators or freezers, must have the Freon removed and tagged by a professional before pickup, per city guidelines.)

Yard Waste Disposal in WM Carts

Mishawaka residents can dispose of yard waste along with regular trash. Yard waste such as leaves, grass clippings, and small branches can be co-mingled with your household trash in the green WM cart mishawaka.in.gov. The city’s leaf pickup program runs in the fall, but at other times yard waste can go out with weekly trash collection.

In addition to using the cart, you may place one (1) extra bag of trash or yard waste at the curb per week for pickup mishawaka.in.gov . This extra yard waste bag must weigh 40 pounds or less and can be a plastic garbage bag or a paper yard waste bag. Place the bag next to your WM cart on your regular collection day, and the waste crew will collect it along with your trash. This allows for a bit of extra capacity during spring yard work season.  Please know that you can comingle trash clippings and yard waste in your WM trash bin as well.  If you find that 1 trash and 1 recycling bin does not meet you needs on an ongoing basis, you can contact WM at (866) 797-9018 for an extra bin at $9.24 or for $7.39 for seniors.  There is also a $25 delivery fee.  It is very important that you use WM bins only for your trash and recycling.  Because of safety, WM is not able to pick up bins that you purchased yourself.

Large Spring Cleanups – Scheduling Extra Pickup

If you are planning a large spring yard cleanup or have an unusually large volume of yard waste that won’t fit in your cart plus one bag, please contact Waste Management in advance to schedule an extra pickup. WM offers on-call bulk waste pickup services; residents can arrange for an additional one-time yard waste collection by reaching out to WM. To schedule an extra pickup, call WM’s customer service at 866-797-9018 or use the My WM mobile app wm.com This ensures that any large piles of yard debris or multiple extra bags can be collected properly without waiting for the next weekly pickup.  Please also remember that the 5th street recycling is now open again from 8:30amto 3:15pm Tuesday through Saturday and is a good option for yard waste as well as the following accepted Items:
