The City of Mishawaka’s 12 Days of Progress

As the holiday season approaches, it’s a time for reflection, gratitude, and progress. Mishawaka has a long tradition of embracing innovation and improvements that enhance the quality of life for our residents.

This year, the City of Mishawaka has been on a journey of progress, marked by meaningful milestones that reflect our values and our vision for the future. In many ways, our new solid waste program fits perfectly into the spirit of the “12 Days of Progress” we’ve experienced in 2024:

On the First Day of Christmas, Mishawaka received…
A brand-new Field House, a state-of-the-art facility for sports, recreation, and a destination for athletic tourism. The Mishawaka Fieldhouse is a 220,000 sq. ft. facility offering 10 multipurpose athletic courts for volleyball and basketball, one turf field for soccer. On top of the 1 million visitors expected here each year, the fieldhouse is expecting to be a beacon of growth for Mishawaka and the surrounding area.

On the Second Day of Christmas, our City received…
Fire Station 2, built to enhance public safety across Mishawaka. With upgraded facilities and equipment, this station will help our firefighters continue responding quickly and effectively to emergencies.

On the Third Day of Christmas, Mishawaka received…
The Veterans Walkway, a dedicated space honoring those who have served. This walkway is our city’s gift of remembrance and respect for the sacrifices of our veterans, providing a serene place for reflection.

On the Fourth Day of Christmas, the city received…
The upgraded Rose Park. This welcoming space for family fun and community events is already a gathering spot. With new features, it’s sure to host many special celebrations and memories for years to come.

On the Fifth Day of Christmas, Mishawaka received…
A newly revitalized Merrifield Park! With upgraded playgrounds, scenic picnic areas, and riverfront trails, Merrifield Park is perfect for year-round enjoyment. Think of it as our city’s “partridge in a pear tree”—though a lot easier to maintain!

On the Sixth Day of Christmas, we gifted Mishawaka…
The historic Battell Park restoration, highlighting its beauty and history. This renewed treasure provides families a place to relax, play, and take in Mishawaka’s past while making new memories.

On the Seventh Day of Christmas, our list grew to include…
The MYAC Pocket Park! Created with our Youth Advisory Council, this smaller but mighty space is designed especially for young people to come together, create, and connect in their own part of the city.

On the Eighth Day of Christmas, Mishawaka received a…
New $40 million Water Treatment Plant, our biggest investment this year! This state-of-the-art facility ensures the long-term quality of our city’s water supply. It may not be gift-wrapped, but it’s the gift of clean, safe water for generations to come.

On the Ninth Day of Christmas, our community gained…
Additional bike trails, which promote health, wellness, and connectivity. These scenic trails link neighborhoods and invite us all to explore and enjoy the beauty of Mishawaka.

On the Tenth Day of Christmas, we unwrapped…
Upgraded city streets and sidewalks! Safe, smooth roads and sidewalks make Mishawaka more accessible for all. It may not be glamorous, but it’s critical for a thriving, walkable, and drivable city.

On the Eleventh Day of Christmas, Mishawaka received…
Expanded public safety services, with increased support for our Police and Fire Departments. Our dedicated first responders now have even more tools and resources to keep Mishawaka a safe, welcoming place.

And on the Twelfth Day of Christmas, we wrapped up…
A strengthened riverwalk that ties our community to the heart of the city. With new pathways, lighting, and landscaping, the Riverwalk has become a vibrant gathering place, perfect for enjoying Mishawaka’s natural beauty.
