Employees shall be entitled to paid vacation as follows:
- 1 year but less than 2 years: 5 vacation days and 1 personal day
- 2 years but less than 3 years: 9 vacation days and 2 personal days
- 3 years but less than 5 years: 9 vacation days and 3 personal days
- 5 years but less than 10 years: 13 vacation days and 3 personal days
- 10 years but less than 15 years: 17 vacation days and 4 personal days
- 15 years but less than 20 years: 22 vacation days and 5 personal days
- 20 years but less than 25 years: 26 vacation days and 6 personal days
- 25 years or more: 26 vacation days and 7 personal days.
480 hours of paid sick time
Overtime earned will be reimbursed to the police officer either in money or compensatory time off from duty at the rate of (2x) double the actual overtime worked by the officer. Training OT is paid at 1.5.
When a new officer is hired, the city will furnish the officer with a complete clothing issue and all equipment necessary to perform the job. After the completion of one year of service, the officer shall be entitled to allowances for the maintenance and replacement of uniform and equipment. The clothing allowance is paid in two equal installments per year. The equipment allowance is paid once annually.
Several different insurance plans covering hospitalization, dental and vision are available through the City of Mishawaka.
Any full-time police officer hired after May 1, 1977, must participate in the Public Employee’s Retirement Fund created in 1977 and administered by the State of Indiana.
