The city of Mishawaka and the Mishawaka Police Department celebrated its phenomenally successful National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024. The Mishawaka Police Department was joined by neighboring police departments, as unity, community, and partnership are apart of the Mishawaka Police Department’s core values.
National Night Out is a special way for the Mishawaka Police Department to demonstrate strong connections between its police officers and community members. National Night Out is a nationwide campaign held annually on the first Tuesday of August. This year, the MPD celebrated the community and took to the streets and parks, engaging with residents through various activities and events designed to promote safety and camaraderie.
“It just gives us the contact,” says Lieutenant Bruce Faltynski of the Mishawaka Police Department. “We’re here to make this a safe neighborhood and community for the residents, but also the people who work in our city and also the visitors.”
National Night Out had an impressive turnout, with hundreds of families coming out to participate, defining Mishawaka’s powerful sense of community. Residents and officers alike enjoyed the opportunity to connect, share stories, and build positive relationships.
The event featured food, games, and educational safety demonstrations. Throughout the evening, families engaged in various activities with the police officers. Children had the chance to meet their police officers, which nurtured a sense of familiarity.
“They go by our house often. We’re in the neighborhood, we love Mishawaka.” stated a Mishawaka resident. “They say, ‘Hi’ to the kids, so to make a positive connection is good. The kids enjoy it, we enjoy it, we just want to come get involved with the community.”
The Mishawaka Police Department celebrated the success of National Night Out and are already looking forward to the event for next year. Engaging with the community is an effective way for the MPD to showcase their dedication and passion towards caring for and protecting the community. The goal remains to keep building on the community ties that are so essential for a safe and vibrant city.
